Library FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

1. What hours is the library open?
9:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Monday - Thursday
9:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Friday - Saturday
12:00 - 3:00 p.m. Sunday
 

Closed days in 2010 are: January 1, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, day after Thanksgiving, and December 24, 25 and 31.

2. Where is the library located?
The library's address is 5920 Milwaukee St., McFarland, WI 53558. Go east on Farwell at Highway 51. Go through the 4-way stop at Farwell and Main, and take a left on Milwaukee St. The Library is across the street from the Municipal Center. See Map

3. How can I get a library card?
You can apply for a free card at the library by filling out a registration form, and showing a photo I.D. with your current address. If your photo I.D. does not have your current address, bring other proof of residence (checks, official bill mailed to you, rental agreement, etc.) Children under 16 must have a parent or legal guardian sign the registration form. 4. What activities do you have for children at the library?
The Library offers a variety of preschool story times and school-age programs throughout the year, as well as the Summer Library Program. For more information, see the Youth Services web page or call the library at 838-9030.

5. Can I use the Internet and/or make copies at the library?
Yes, the library has 2 Internet Express stations, 1 Word Processing station, 1 children's Internet station (with CyberPatrol filter), and 8 computers that have both the Internet and Microsoft Word. Most computers are available on a walk-in basis for 1 hour time periods. Wireless Internet access is also available for use with personal laptops. The charge for printing from library computers is .10 per page.

The library also provides a black & white photocopier available for public use at .10 per copy. Copier paper sizes are 8.5x11 and 8.5x14. Reducing, enlarging and double-sided copies are additional copier options.

6. How can I reach the library system's online catalog?

7. What number can I call to obtain information on items currently checked out, items being held, or to renew items?
The LINK TeleCirc number (also known as Harriet) is (608) 242-4700, and is available 24 hours a day. Please have your library card barcode number and PIN number handy .  

8. How can I receive notices of my holds by email instead of by phone?
You can give Harriet (and yourself!) a break by asking at the Library circulation desk. We can change your library computer record so that you receive the notices by email.

9. How can I join the Friends of the McFarland Library?
There is a Membership Form you can fill out and turn in at the library to join the Friends group. Membership levels range from $1 for students to $100 for lifetime memberships. For more information about the Friends, see the Friends Web Page.

10. How can I reserve the library’s meeting room?
The Meeting Room Policy and Application Form are available on the library’s web site. Please read the policy carefully before applying to use the meeting room. Turn in the completed application form at the library’s circulation desk. You will be called to confirm the reservation. You may also call the library at 838-9030 to see if a particular time is open.
