Citizen Police Academy
The Village of McFarland Police Department is hosting a Citizen Police Academy this fall.
We are currently looking for applicants who would be interested in participating in this experience.
The department strives to involve the citizens we serve with insight and understanding of what policing in McFarland is all about.
Our Citizen Police Academy is designed to impart to each attendee a basic understanding of what it takes to become and maintain a basic police certification in Wisconsin. The program is unique in that each topic discussed is followed up with a "hands -on" exercise where the Cadets actually perform each of these skills, such as; radar, evidence collection, defense and arrest tactics, firearms training, taser training, emergency vehicle operations and a variety of other topics.
The program offers a relaxed atmosphere for interaction between our community members and the officers that serve them. It also provides the average citizen with a better understanding of what a police officer's job entails.
Classes run for 3 hours, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for seven consecutive weeks. The start date is Wednesday, September 15, 2010. There is no cost to attend the program. You must be a McFarland resident or work in the Village of McFarland and be 18 years of age to attend.
Applications may be obtained at the Police Department. If you would like additional information, or have any questions, please contact Officer Dori Korfmacher or Lt. Brian Redman at the McFarland Police Department at 838-3151.
