Noteworthy Cases
10-03-2011 An officer stopped a vehicle for a routine traffic violation. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol and arrested. The driver was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence-6th offense and prohibited alcohol concentration. The driver had a blood alcohol concentration of .13, which was six times the allowable limit for someone with five prior offenses.
10-08-2011 Officers were dispatched to the 5000 block of Farwell Street for a domestic disturbance. Officers arrived and separated the two subjects involved. During the investigation, officers learned the disturbance started over some food and cigarettes. Officers eventually arrested one subject for disorderly conduct, intimidation of a victim, and bail jumping.
10-17-2011 Officers were dispatched to the 4800 block of Farwell Street for a reported stolen auto. Officers arrived and learned the known suspect had also stolen money from the vehicle owner. The vehicle was located three days later and the suspect was arrested for operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent.
10-22-2011 An officer stopped a vehicle for a routine traffic violation. While contacting the driver, the officer smelled the odor of raw and burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The officer requested the assistance of a canine officer to search the vehicle. During the search of the vehicle, several items of contraband were located to include: marijuana, a collapsible baton, and a BB gun that looked like a real handgun. The driver was charged with operating after suspension, speeding, and carrying a concealed weapon. One of the passengers was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and manufacturing marijuana and the other passenger was charged with possession of marijuana.
10-24-2011 Officers were dispatched to the 4700 block of Ivywood Trail for a disturbance. Officers arrived on scene and learned the suspect had left in a vehicle with one of the victims. A short time later, officers learned the victim was parked on Highway 51 in Monona. Officers contacted the victim and learned a friend of hers had become angry and began to attack her car and made threats to harm others. The suspect was identified but could not be located. The suspect will be charged with felony intimidation of a victim, recklessly endangering safety, disorderly conduct while armed, disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property and four counts of bail jumping. The suspect is still at large.
10-24-2012 Officers were dispatched to the 5900 block of Spartan Drive for an attempted armed robbery. Officers arrived and learned the victim was battered by a subject he had met over the internet. The victim was able to fend off the suspect who fled prior to any property being taken. The case remains under investigation.
10-27-2011 An officer stopped a vehicle for a routine traffic violation. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence-7th offense and booked into jail on a probation hold for a previous OWI arrest.
10-28-2011 An officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a routine traffic violation. The vehicle attempted to elude the officer and pulled into a parking lot on Paulson Court. The officer found the vehicle and made contact with the driver who was under the influence of alcohol. The driver was eventually arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence-2nd offense, operating without a valid drivers license, speeding, and open intoxicants in a motor vehicle. After the driver was arrested and placed in the squad car, she became combative and began to kick at the widows of the squad car. Officers had to put leg restraints on the driver to prevent damage to the squad. One of the passengers was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.
10-28-2011 Officers were dispatched to McFarland Liquor for a burglary to the business. The owner had arrived on scene and found the front door glass damaged and a front window had been smashed out. The owner determined several bottle of liquor were stolen from the business. The case is still under investigation.
