Grease:
WHY CAN'T I POUR GREASE DOWN THE DRAIN? The Village continues to experience isolated blockages in sanitary sewer mains caused by an accumulation of grease. When such blockages occur, raw sewerage can back up into the basements of nearby homes and cause substantial damage and inconvenience.
You should never pour cooking grease down the drain of your home or business. Doing so will cause problems with the internal plumbing of your home as well as the Village's sewer system, and is simply asking for eventual trouble.
WHAT SHOULD I DO WITH GREASE?
- Pour off the grease into a suitable container
- Let is solidify
- Dispose of the hardened grease with your regular trash
WARNING!!! Village ordinance prohibits putting grease into the sanitary sewer systrem -- Violators are subject to stiff fines.
WHERE CAN I RECYCLE OTHER AUTO PRODUCTS?
Dane County Website
http://www.co.dane.wi.us
Why Recycle?
Recycling automotive products not only eliminates the environmental problems from disposal, but also produces useful products. Automotive oil is either re-refined into new motor oil or used as a fuel oil. The metal from oil filters is recycled at steel mills and foundries. Old antifreeze can be re-made into new antifreeze (sometimes right at the drop-off point). Tires are either burned for energy, replacing coal and other fossil fuels, or recycled into a variety of rubber products. The lead from lead-acid batteries is recycled into new automobile batteries, with a national recycling rate of 95%.
Please do your part and recycle your automotive products in the proper manner!
