Recycling
The Village of McFarland and Waste Management have implemented a new single stream recycling system. Under this more efficient system, all current recyclable materials will be co-mingled together in a standardized container similar to that now used for trash. Waste Management uses an automated vehicle to collect obth garbage and recycling.
An important feature of the new system is that, while garbage will continue to be collected every week, recyclables will now be collected every other week. The Village will be divided into two halves, with the north half collected one week and the south half the alternate week.

Please keep the following tips in mind:

No matter what time your trash or recycling was picked up in the past, all garbage containers and recycle carts must be placed in the driveway or on the backside of the curb by 6:00 a.m. of the scheduled collection day, but not more than 24 hours prior to such time. There will be a reconfiguration of driver routes, due to the new system and improved efficiencies, so there will likely be a change in your collection time. DO NOT PLACE GARBAGE CONTAINERS OR RECYCLE CARTS IN THE STREET.

Containers cannot be placed in the street, they should be positioned in the end of your driveway or on the terrace area. They also need to be free from any nearby or overhanging obstructions so that the automated truck can pull up parallel to the container, grab and dump it, and place it back in the original location. Please maintain a minimum 12" - 24" separation between the refuse and recycling containers.
2013 Holiday Schedule
- January 1 pickup will be Wednesday, January 2
- May 28 pickup will be Wednesday, May 29
- September 3 pickup will be Wednesday, September 4
If a holiday falls on a Monday or Tuesday, trash and recycling pickup will be on Wednesday. If a holiday falls on a Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday, pickup will be on Tuesday.
