Do you provide notary services?

Yes.  A Notary Public is a sworn public officer with the power to perform a number of official legal acts. The office of notary public is technically classified as a ministerial office, meaning it does not involve significant legal judgment or judicial-style discretion of the acts being performed.

The Village of McFarland has several Notary Publics working in various departments within the McFarland Municipal Center, located at 5915 Milwaukee Street. Citizens can stop by our offices and request this service on a drop in basis. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The most frequent act performed by the Notary Public is the verification of an individual’s signature. In order to verify a signature, the requestor must comply with the following requirements:

1.  Be in the physical presence of the Notary Public.
2.  Provide one of the following identification credentials:
    a. Passport issued by any nation;
    b. Driver’s license issued by a U.S. state or territory;
    c. Non-driver identification card issued by a U.S. state or territory; or
    d. U.S. military identification.

The Village is pleased to be able to provide this service to the public.

Should you find that our hours or location do not meet your needs, notary public services are also available at most banks and insurance offices.

How do I go about searching public records?

Information may be obtained from the Records Custodian at the Office of the Village Clerk, McFarland Municipal Center, 5915 Milwaukee Street, McFarland, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. The Village is subdivided into various departments and offices as described below.

All public records, which are not confidential or privileged, are available for public inspection and/or copying during normal office hours. Requests for inspection should be made to the head of the department listed above, or his/her designee, and may be made either orally or in writing. If the records request is denied, any oral request for information may be denied orally and any written request will be denied in writing with a full statement of the reason(s) for such denial.

Any person may request the advice of the State of Wisconsin Attorney General as to the right to inspect public records and property under any circumstances. A copy charge of $.25 per page is applicable for each page that is copied or reproduced on Village copiers plus the costs of locating, mailing, transcribing and/or tape transfer, if applicable. Requests whose total cost exceeds $5.00 may require pre-payment. Requests will be filled as soon as practicable and without delay. If there is any public record or information which you cannot determine the location of, or if you need assistance in locating the person or department in charge of that record, the Village Clerk will assist you with your inquiry.

Should I contact you with address updates?
  • Has your parcel address changed? (Address where your home, business, or income property is located)
  • Has your billing address changed? (Address where you receive your tax bill, utility bill, or any other mail sent by the Village of McFarland)
  • Is your parcel or billing address incorrect?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, please contact us immediately so we can change or correct your parcel or billing address.  We will need your name, street address, phone number and the requested change or correction.  Please complete this Address Change Form and submit as follows.

  • Bring to the Village of McFarland Administration Department located in the McFarland Municipal Center, 5915 Milwaukee Street
  • Mail to Village of McFarland, P.O. Box 110, McFarland, WI, 53558-0110

Dane County is notified of all address changes submitted, and will update their records accordingly.

Who do we contact to rent your facilities?

Village parks.  Contact the Administration Department staff at 838-3153.

Library rooms.  Contact the E.D. Locke Public Library at 838-9030.

McFarland Municipal Center rooms.  Contact Administration Department staff at 838-3153.

Reservations for all Village facilities are scheduled on a priority basis as follows:

Village government
Village-related programs
Community and other non-profit groups

In any public announcement, the conference room user may not use the Village's name in such a way that it may be inferred that the Village is the host or sponsor of the scheduled meeting.
