Due to extreme frost depths of five feet or more that now exist in our area, residents and businesses may be at a higher risk of having their water laterals freeze. Water customers are being asked to check the temperature of their water coming into the residence/business. Normal ground water temperatures are in the upper 40s to lower 50s. Use a thermometer that will measure low enough to check the temperature of the incoming water supply at a point close to where it enters the structure, such as a faucet nearest the water meter. If the water temperature is close to 38 degrees F or lower, please contact the McFarland Water Utility as soon as possible at (608) 838-7287 for further instructions on how to avoid the inconvenience and expense of a frozen water lateral.
