The Village will be accepting applications to be appointed to the following standing committees:
- Communications and Technology
- Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources
- Public Safety
- Public Utility
- Public Works
- Senior Outreach Services
These standing committees assist the Village Board by doing the preliminary work on an issue. Most committees meet once a month and are comprised of a combination of elected Village Board members and appointed citizen representatives. These committees play an important role in Village governance by providing a sounding board for community opinion. Minutes Preparer - Village of McFarland
The Village is seeking individuals interested in preparing minutes of Village committee meetings. Village committees meet once a month, typically in the evenings, for approximately two hours. The day of the month the meeting occurs on depends on the committee. Visit the Boards and Committees page for a complete listing of committees and the days and times of their meetings.
The individual can either attend the committee meeting in person or view the committee meeting online from the Village's website. Minutes can be prepared at home and emailed to the Village. Individual should have a home computer, be able to use Microsoft Word, be dependable, and have good listening and interpretative skills.
Book Sale Volunteer - E.D. Locke Library
The Village's library is seeking individuals interested in assisting staff at Friends of the Library sponsored used book sales. The book sales occur seven times a year on Saturdays and one Sunday for approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Event dates are available from the Library. Individuals will be taking payments for books and keeping shelves tidy. Individuals should be friendly, have a welcoming personality, and be able to use a calculator and stepstool.
Book Sale Room Helper - E.D. Locke Library
The Village's library is seeking individuals interested in helping prepare books for Friends of the Library book sales. Individuals will be placing stickers on incoming books and/or placing books on the correct, labeled shelves. Individuals can select their own times to work during the Library's open hours on a weekly or biweekly basis. Individuals should have the ability to carry books to shelves, be able to stand on a stepstool and place books on higher shelves, and be able to accurately shelf books by category or alphabetical order.
Special Event Staffing - Village of McFarland
The Village is seeking individuals 18 years of age or older interested in being "on-call" to assist the police department with security and other duties on an as-needed basis during special events taking place in the village. Individuals should have a basic understanding of child/family safety concepts and the ability to stand/walk for an extended period of time. Individuals will need to furnish their own flashlight and cell phone. The Police department will provide basic training and traffic vests.
Traffic Direction Assistance - Village of McFarland
The Village is seeking individuals 18 years of age or older interested in being "on-call" to assist the police department in directing traffic on an as-needed basis during special events like parades, races, etc. Individuals should have a basic understanding of traffic control and movement, ability to stand/walk for an extended period of time, and acceptable vision and hearing. The Police department will provide basic training and traffic vests.
Share a Special Skill or Talent with Others
Do you have a talent, skill or passion that you would love to share with others in the McFarland community? Are you interested in volunteering your time to teach a course or start a program? The Volunteer Program is interested in volunteers who have a special skill or talent that they can teach to others in our community. It is very possible that a program can be built around your abilities and for the population with which you would like to work. The Village handles all class registrations, provides a facility, and assists in advertising.
If interested in exploring this possibility, contact the Volunteer Coordinator at the Municipal Center with any other pertinent information that will help in evaluating your course proposal. All course instructors selected may have a background check conducted.
Adopt Storm Water Catch Basins (Grates) - Village of McFarland
The Village is looking for individuals who will ensure storm water catch basins (grates) near their home are clear of snow, ice, and other debris. Persons will need a shovel, be capable of digging through frozen/packed snow, be able to work in various, sometimes harsh, weather conditions, and be able to lift up to 50 pounds multiple time. Persons should be able to stand and work in snowy/icy conditions.
