Exchange Street Reconstruction (2024)
The Village has been studying the reconstruction of Exchange Street from Farwell Street to the Yahara River Bridge for a few years. This road is one of the main thoroughfares serving as an entry point into the Village from US Highway 51 as well as access to several schools and neighborhoods in the area. The Village has been awarded funds through the state to utilize towards costs associated with the road, sidewalk, and stormwater. The Village will have a small share of those same costs plus 100% of the costs for water and sewer. Village costs have been incorporated into the 5-Year Capital Improvement Plan (PDF). The most recent Exchange Street Roll Drawing (PDF) was provided by Town & Country Engineering on Monday, December 19, 2022.
The construction of this project will require construction crews to have access to private properties. This access will be used to match existing lawns to the new sidewalk grade, to remove and replace existing driveways to match the new grade, and to perform tree removals where necessary. Access to private properties on this project will be covered through the acquisition of temporary limited easements. Affected property owners have received communications from the Village's real estate consultant. The blue stakes seen on properties along Exchange Street are a part of this process. The blue staking delineates the edge of the temporary limited easement area. These easement areas are show in detail on the Exchange Street Plat map (PDF). Residents affected by the easement acquisition should also be aware of the Rights of Landowners under Wisconsin Eminent Domain Law (PDF).
