Public Hearing: Proposed Revisions to Tourist Rooming House Ordinance

The Village adopted the Tourist Rooming House ordinance in 2017 as a means of regulating Tourist Rooming Houses, AKA Short term rentals in the Village. In 2020 the Village made updates to the ordinance to remove provisions that conflict with the State’s right to rent law. The Village has received several requests from residents to conduct a follow-up review of the ordinance. 

On Monday, April 3, 2023, the Village held a public information session on the Village’s Tourist Rooming House Ordinance. The Public Safety Committee reviewed comments received from residents and Tourist Rooming House owners/operators and have put together proposed revisions to the ordinance. The Committee’s goal was to balance the concerns of neighbors with the right for property owners to use their property as a Tourist Rooming House.

The Village Board will hold a public hearing on the proposed revisions to the Tourist Rooming House Ordinance at their regular meeting, Tuesday June 27th beginning at 7 p.m.

Residents wishing to attend the public hearing session can do so in-person at the Municipal Center in the Community Room or via Zoom (information below). 

If you cannot attend the meeting, you may submit your written comments to the Village Board by emailing the Village Clerk or via mail at, Village of McFarland, P.O. Box 110, McFarland, WI 53558-0110.  

Submission must be received no later than Thursday, June 22nd at noon to be included in the Village Board packet. All feedback received after this date will be forwarded to the Village Board but not included in the agenda packet.
