McFarland Lutheran Church Hosts Fundraiser to Bring Clean Water to Village in Uganda

Saturday, September 23, 2023

McFarland Lutheran Church Hosts Fundraiser to Bring Clean Water to Village in Uganda Fundraiser will feature a 2.5-mile walk symbolizing the average distance villagers travel for water McFarland, WI. (September 21, 2023) – McFarland Lutheran Church is hosting its fifth annual Walk 4 Water Fundraiser to support the drilling of safe water boreholes for the village of Petta Central North in Uganda. Walk 4 Water McFarland will start at 10 a.m. at McDaniel Park on Saturday, September 23. Walk 4 Water McFarland participants will traverse a two and a half mile walking trail along the shore of Lake Waubesa (4806 McDaniel Lane McFarland, WI), symbolizing the average distance Ugandan women and children travel to retrieve water, largely from unprotected sources including open ponds, livestock water points, and polluted ditches. Walk 4 Water is the signature fundraiser of Water 4 Kids International, a division of Hope 4 Kids International, a non-profit working to provide clean water to children and families who are suffering through extreme poverty and disease. Walk 4 Water fundraising supports the non-profit’s international efforts to provide clean drinking water and deliver long-term solutions. “We are so excited to be returning to McFarland for a fifth year to visit the wonderful community and raise funds for wells in Uganda where millions of people do not have access to clean, safe water,” said Angie Simon, Hope 4 Kids International VP of International Development. “The overall community support has been amazing, and the faith community support from McFarland Lutheran Church has been such a blessing.” In March 2023, Water 4 Kids International hit a major milestone and celebrated the opening of 1,000 boreholes, bringing fresh safe water to over three-million people. Clean water is one of the best ways to prevent diseases in remote villages in which a minor ailment could be fatal. In addition to drilling deep water wells, Water 4 Kids International also provides these communities with hygiene and sanitation education, as well as operation and maintenance training. When properly installed, these wells can last between 30-50 years with little to no maintenance. Registration for the event is $30 for adults and $15 for youth aged 3 to 17. Participants can also contribute by bidding in the silent auction prior to the start of the walk. The funds raised from registration fees and the silent aucition will go towards the drilling of a fresh-water well. Walk 4 Water McFarland’s fundraising goal is $12,500 which would bring clean water to the entire village of Petta Central North.
